The 2018 Winter Olympics continues to chug along, with figure skating remaining a prominent staple on the schedule over the next week.

A total of six figure skating events will take place over the next seven days, including four medal events. The women’s free skate has the main-event slot on Feb. 23, but there is no shortage of competition to focus on until that date.

After a night full of disappointment in alpine skiing and figure skating, the United States is hoping Lindsey Vonn can help it recover in the 2018 Winter Olympics medal count.

The Americans were supposed to take home gold in the women’s slalom through Mikaela Shiffrin and set themselves for a high-podium finish in men’s figure skating by way of Nathan Chen on Thursday, but both athletes suffered disappointing performances.

Seventeenth. That’s definitely not where American figure skater Nathan Chen expected to be at the 2018 Winter Olympics after Friday’s men’s short program in South Korea.

Chen, the two-time United States champion who entered his first Olympics with so much hype, followed up a rough showing in the team competition with an even rougher outing on Thursday night’s primetime NBC broadcast. He missed on all of his jumps and looked tentative, finishing 17th.

However, there’s a lot of figure skating left, and whether it’s men’s, women’s or pairs, there’s no question that everyone wants to make an impression. Rippon, Chen and Nagasu are leading the way for Team USA, and expect some crazy routines moving forward. Team USA has already made an impression. But now it’s every skater (or pair of skaters) for themselves.
