After completing the second ten-win regular season in program history, the Memphis football team faces UCF on Saturday in the American Athletic Conference championship game at Spectrum Stadium in Orlando (11 a.m., ABC). Here are three keys that could decide the outcome of the game.
The Tigers are 7-0 SU and 6-0-1 ATS since that loss to Central Florida back in September, finishing their regular season last week with a 70-13 blowout of East Carolina. Memphis scored touchdowns on its first six possessions last week, led 49-0 at the half and cruised home from there, easily covering a 30-point spread.
On the day, the Tigers tallied 635 yards of offense, 333 on the ground and 302 through the air. They also got a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown from Tony Pollard, who’s averaging a ridiculous 44 yards per return this season.
Former Nebraska Cornhusker and current head coach at the University of Central Florida Scott Frost had his American Athletic Conference championship game press conference Friday afternoon.
Frost’s Knights are 11-0 this season and champions of the east division in the AAC. They will play Memphis for the conference championship game Saturday at 11 a.m.
During Friday’s press conference, Frost said his team is looking to finish off the what they started.
“This team wants to finish this off the right way. We know we have a big challenge and a good opponent in front of us, but they’re gonna get our best and if we play as well as we can play, then I like our chances,” Frost said.
Frost was also asked if any of the rumors about his future with the team have been a distraction for him or his team.
